Al Marsh Comment by Al Marsh on August 6, 2009 at 2:39pm
Hi fellow Californians. Al Marsh, 9 handicap out of San Fernando Valley, LA. Had a great summer so far. Played in Hawaii at Ko'olau and Luana Hills on Oahu. Both are wonderful, awesome courses winding through the rain forests on the eastern side. Must play courses if you go there. You can get a package and get cheaper by doing internet search, I think GolfHawaii is the site. Bring extra balls. Easy to lose 'em into jungle, but so worth it. Take your camera. Lots of beautiful scenery. You won't believe where you're playing, trust me. You'll wanna take shots of the holes you're playing.
Played in Palm Springs back in late June. We played Tahquitz Resort course first. Much better than the Legends classic course. Resort course is beautiful, challenging, fun and playable links course by Ted Robinson. Greens were kind of slow for this course that day. It was HOT, 113 when we played. Stayed and played at Indian Wells courses. Celebrity and Players courses are two of the most beautiful and fun courses you can play there. Camera worthy holes. Challeging as heck too. Played SilverRock. Fantastic and challenging Faldo course in La Quinta. You need your game there, but its great to play anyway. Shadow Ridge is good course too, winding through a resort. Pretty tough, playable from correct tees. I felt it was overrated compared to the raves the hotel concierge gave us. My friends played the Classic course and thought it was one of the very best there. I missed it unfortunately. I'll take their word. I tried to get them to go out to Eagle Falls in Indio. I love the course, excellent design, great aesthetics. But we played Shadow Ridge instead. We all thoroughly enjoyed the Indian Wells courses. And it was so cheap to play out there in June. We didn't have insufferable heat after Tahquitz, it was overcast most mornings. We played usually in high 90s low 100 degrees. We got lucky.
Just came back from Vegas and played the fun and well maintained Desert Pines. Some challenging narrow fairways, rolling greens, well placed bunkers and water features make it tough but play from the correct tees and its great. It was only $39 at twilight.
It was great to play all this golf at world class courses. Back in the Valley now and have to suffer playing local munis. I try to play in Ventura county where courses are in better shape and more fun.

You can beat C any day. Play your game, and play one hole at a time. Don't think ahead. You can do it.

Actually, this was taken at Machrihanish Dunes. An amazing walk over 7 miles from start to finish over some beautiful sand dunes. Great day out with the flight over from Glasgow. Some great scenery on the way.
